The sense lines and pronunciation helps will greatly assist lay lectors in their preparation of the readings.

Lectionaries

In order to support the revised lectionaries of Lutheran Service Book, separate lectionary volumes have been prepared for each series of the three-year lectionary as well as the one-year lectionary. The readings for the Feasts, Festivals, and Occasions will be included in each of these volumes.

Two special features are the hallmark of these editions. The first is “sense line” formatting. Rather than simply reprint the pericopes in paragraph format, each reading is divided into separate lines according to the sense of the text. The second feature is the inclusion of pronunciation helps for biblical names and places. Each pronunciation help is spelled phonetically and placed in the right margin of the line where the word occurs.

Each volume of the lectionary includes an extensive introduction that explores numerous topics, including the significance of public reading of Holy Scripture, the history of the lectionary, and an explanation of the development of the lectionaries in Lutheran Service Book. Pronunciation helps for all the books of the Bible are also provided.

A comprehensive index of readings is provided for each lectionary.
